Why This Fund
We’ve brought together 27 community-led relief efforts from across Massachusetts to offer a one-stop option for individuals and foundations seeking to contribute directly to frontline relief during the coronavirus crisis.
Donations to the Mass Redistribution Fund go to community organizations that are working around the clock to meet the needs of our neighbors who are most at risk of severe consequences in this crisis, from low-income renters facing eviction to undocumented families and people in prison.
Your donation will:
Support immediate COVID-19 relief efforts in historically marginalized communities across Massachusetts
Support local and state advocacy for essential public health policies and economic recovery
Help build local networks and resilient systems that sustain our communities for the long term
As of November 25, 2020, the Mass Redistribution Fund is temporarily pausing our collective fundraising efforts. COVID's impacts on our communities has not abated, and our 27 grassroots partners continue to work to provide critical direct relief, advocacy and support to families across the state.
We encourage you to support their ongoing relief and recovery efforts by donating directly to one or more of the 27 grassroots groups.
If you are able, please consider committing to the long-term success of these community-led efforts by becoming a monthly sustainer. You can learn more about each group's relief efforts on our Recipients page.
Since launching in May of 2020 as a collective grassroots response to the COVID crisis, the Mass Redistribution Fund has fundraised and redistributed over $760,000 to community-led COVID relief efforts in historically marginalized communities across the state of Massachusetts. We thank our 900+ donors for supporting the grassroots and for believing in a world where our communities are safe, prepared and resourced to meet future crises.
The Mass Redistribution Fund will relaunch our fundraising efforts once a second federal stimulus is passed. In the meantime, we continue to update our News page with information about the continued work of our grassroots partners and full MRF network! Thank you for believing in and continuing to support community-led solutions to the COVID crisis.
Grassroots groups across Massachusetts have been among the first responders in the unfolding coronavirus crisis, working around the clock to support our most impacted neighbors. These groups have moved quickly because before the pandemic hit, they were already working to provide relief for urgent community needs while building the long-term community resilience necessary to weather future storms.
Working with retail and service workers out of work, low-income renters unable to make rent, undocumented workers suddenly without incomes and ineligble for government support, or those in prison and denied basic cleaning supplies; these grassroots groups protect and support our neighbors facing life-threatening challenges that cannot be solved on their own.
In the face of the coronavirus crisis and economic crash, these groups are ramping up their work, meeting urgent needs and providing forward-looking solutions so that we don’t repeat the mistakes that got us here.
By making a donation or pledging to #ShareMyCheck with the Mass Redistribution Fund, you’ll join a growing movement of people putting community health over personal wealth. Your money will be shared among a diverse group of direct relief funds and urgent efforts across Massachusetts to stabilize families, workers, elders, prisoners and immigrants, and to amplify the long-term changes we need for community resilience next time a crisis hits.
We are in a moment of upheaval. Just as COVID-19 has shown us that we depend on each other for our physical health, it’s more clear than ever that protecting our neighbors who are most threatened by this crisis makes everyone stronger. We must also look ahead to build a just and more resilient future.
Join us. Pledge your federal check or donate now to fortify grassroots relief efforts.
